Spring Fling KidLit 2021
April 3, 2021
Created by Ciara O’Neal and Kaitlyn Sanchez, #SpringFlingKidLit is a writing challenge: Take a GIF and weave together a short story of 150 words or less. Thank you, Ciara and Kaitlyn!
Here's my eight Haiku, 118 word story about a boy, baseball, and Qing Ming. (If you're unfamiliar, you can find out more about Qing Ming here.)
QING MING
Picnic Day’s o-kay.
Windows down, we buckle up
With big cousin Mei.
Blooming trees zoom by.
Mei says, “No game today, but...
Got two mitts to try!”
Sunshine warms the grass.
Uncles and aunts clean and chat.
We play catch at last.
Mei shouts, “Go way back!”
She throws it up high, and... I...
Catch it with a “THWACK!”
“We’re ready, let’s go.”
We line up all in a row.
One. Two. Three. Bow low.
Grandma mumbles slow.
“He’s tall now, and gets good grades.”
She’s happy-sad though.
“Say ‘hello’?” she weeps.
I look down with just a glance.
Giants... got... a chance..?
I can still see him.
Sweet incense burns, and floats free.
Hi, Grandpa... It’s me.
